How are crystals formed?
Crystals are a substance with a homogeneous shape that is formed by cooling down the mineral elements in certain environments. There are two types of crystals, those that are formed naturally and those that are man-made. In this instance, we will be dealing with those that are formed naturally.
The meaning of the word crystal was derived from the Greek word meaning ice. However, not all crystals are clear and transparent – we have gemstones that have different colors. Crystals are formed from different minerals subjected to great temperatures and pressure that are then cooled off in different processes. The uniqueness of each crystal can be attributed to the stage of the earth’s evolution, its color and mineral elements.
The earth’s crust is said to be composed of mainly silicate (90%). Silicate is constituted of mainly oxygen and silicon found in the earth’s crust. Oxygen and silicon combine to form silicon dioxide, also known as quartz crystal – the most common crystal. There are other crystals in various quantities, ranging from large conglomerate stalactites to small pebbles in the form of gemstones. Crystals are said to transmit, reflect, and store light and receive energy. According to physics, quartz crystal directs energy into thought. Thus, it is used today in computer chips to store information.
Crystals have been known to give insight into the history of earth’s formation. They hold scientific evidence of the events that were taking place at the time of their formation. They are evidence of earth’s evolution, as some collect animal fossils within their formation, preserved in time. Each crystal is distinguished and complete with its own genesis reflected in its shape, color, and size. Each crystal permeates its own radiance as defined by time and age of its formation.
History of crystals
The earth is said to have been formed from whirling debris and gas in space that clumped together. It was through this process that magma emerged from the core of the earth in the form of molten granite. The molten granite, subjected to high temperatures, emerged on the earth’s surface where it was cooled by surface water forming the zircon crystal. Zircon crystal is the oldest known crystal on earth, forming about 4.4 billion years ago. Zircon crystal is found in Western Australia. However, the earliest dates of man using crystal are found in the Sumerian civilization where they used crystals in magic. Also, in great Egyptian civilizations crystals were used as healing tools. It was believed that the energy transmitted from the crystal could be focused on healing and giving health. In the 11th century, Bishop Rennes concurred that the amulets that were made by the Egyptians made the wearer more agreeable and persuasive in favor of God.
In the mythology of the Atlantis civilization where today we find the Bermuda triangle, crystals were said to rejuvenate youthful appearance. The crystal energy was focused on a capsule and those who could withstand the energy levels were said to be rejuvenated to live hundreds of years while the body maintained its youthful appearance. The Atlantis civilization crystal known as the Fire Crystal is said to be sunken at Bermuda triangle and its energy is thought to sometimes emerge to the surface.
In Mexico, we have the Naica mine of Chihuahua discovered by geologists in 1974. Selenite, the gypsum crystal is said to have many spiritual and healing benefits used by the Aztec civilization for many years. The powder was used to enhance beauty. It was also used to assist in mental focus, good luck, health maintenance, and soul-soothing.
In Germany, a court physician Anselmus stated that there were good and bad angels in crystals. The good angel made one believe the powers of crystal were from God, while the bad angel in crystals made one believe the powers of crystal were from the crystal itself and thus one worshiped the crystal. These same manifestations of good and bad crystal were observed in Egyptian civilizations. In the Renaissance period in Europe, around the 11th century, experiments were carried out with clairvoyants where they were asked to state what they perceived from the crystals; some claimed physical and emotional changes and others claimed to sense different smells and tastes
The use of crystals in ancient history has some converging points worth noting that show similarities across civilizations. We have the jade stone that was used in China for healing kidneys and also used in South America for the same purpose. We also have turquoise that was worn to give strength and health all over the world. There is jasper that was commonly used for strength and calm. However, crystals like the adage of time have been commonly used as spiritual enhancers where they were used together with herbs all over the world. They were worn as talisman. They were revered as energy emitters, spiritual directors as soul soothers and they also were believed to absorb negative vibes. There were crystals that were said to harbor negative energy and therefore needed to be cleansed for healing purposes
Healing uses of crystal
While there has been no firm ground to draw on conclusively that crystals have healing power, history has it that crystals have healing powers. This is not a proposition one can easily run away from based on what has been observed. In a laboratory setting, scientists observed a crystal grow under a microscope as it changed to thought. It was perceived as the transformation of thought into reality using quartz crystal. This experiment was drawn from the assumption that crystal moves energy within it through vibration. The human body is said to consist of 70% silicon dioxide and water. According to Vogel, a scientist, there is constant assembling and dissembling of bonds in solids between molecules which causes them to vibrate releasing or absorbing energy. Quartz is said to store energy in the form of adulated thought. Einstein stated everything that manifested in your life is there because it matches the vibration of your thought.
Quartz crystals are used in electronics for timekeeping and as laser devices. This is because they can transform energy from one form to another, although we cannot explain whether the process of transmission is based on the source or the elements of the crystal. This makes one hesitate to sufficiently explain the healing powers of crystals. However, we cannot deny the transforming effects of one energy form to another and its effect on spiritual form, so we cannot entirely deny the positive effects of crystals as energy form converters and also as transmitters.
However, regardless of the limited scientific support, crystal therapy has breached religious boundaries and spiritual beliefs such that it is now offered in colleges. Today people are looking for natural ways to heal and the use of crystals has been one of the options. Crystal therapy practitioners place crystals on points of the body thought to be energy points. These energy points are thought to convert energy levels and direct energy into a different form, thus giving the desired effect. Todays’ crystal therapy practitioners have drawn from ancient practices where crystals are used in meditation. Just like in ancient times, they believe some crystal may be corrupted, and there is need to cleanse them before healing. We have various crystals being ascribed to various spiritual relieves as an accepted norm worldwide. The most common are the gemstones which are widely used to achieve various energy levels or release of negative vibes. Crystals are used as an energy muse with a conscious lifestyle, providing a tool for empowerment.
While crystals may not be perceived to have a grounded healing factor, they are believed to improve spiritual bearing. It is from this positive enhancement of good feeling that remote conclusions are drawn on the healing effects of crystals. Presently we have different crystals each named for a particular use such as abalone used for relationships, agate for stability, amethyst for relaxing, and many others. Crystals are perceived to energize, stabilize and even enlighten the body. They are also said to draw one out from depression to pursue ambitions with higher energy levels. They are said to allow a smooth flow of energy, endorsing a calming effect and helping to vent out toxic emotions.
Crystals are appealing to the eye and are often used as jewelry just like in ancient times. They have different colors and each color affects the brain differently. It is this appeal that attributes to different uses. Crystal pieces are said to help our conscience connect with our physical body. When placed on the body they are said to have powerful vibrations that move the conscience energy to the physical being. Thus, you become more conscious of yourself and your energy levels are elevated as you connect with yourself from inside.
There are vast knowledge gaps in the universe that have not been covered and thus we cannot rely on scientific methods alone in determining the healing factors of crystals. The world is composed of a physical and spiritual world that we have not been able to clearly explain using scientific methods. Thus, the healing powers of crystals, while it may not bear scientific explanations, has laid the ground for spiritual reflections and enthusing of energy levels just as it is used as a laser device. Crystals are elements in the change of thought and they do contribute to the wellness of an individual.
